Double-Mast Nautical Installation |
| 1. Dig foundation hole as detailed in the Ground Sleeve Installation
Instructions. Set sleeve in hole so that top of tube
is 2'' above grade. Plumb sleeve vertically, and brace so
that sleeve will not move during pour. Pour concrete and
trowel to desired finish. Allow concrete to cure for 48
hours. 2. Remove lowermast from wrappings, and place on saw-horses. Slide flash collar onto bottom of pole, and temporarily tape it out of the way above the tar-line. 3. Pick up lowermast with a nylon sling, and set into foundation sleeve. Center pole on steel wedges, and turn so that cleats will face in desired directions. Plumb pole vertically, using wooden wedges between pole and sleeve to hold pole in place. Tamp dry sand between pole and sleeve, to within 1'' to 2'' of top of tube. Rapping or vibrating pole while tamping will help to compact the sand. 4. Slide the gaff and yardarm bracket over the top, and down the lowermast until it seats itself. Rotate the bracket so that the gaff will face in the desired direction, aligned with the cleat. 5. Remove the uppermast and bracket from the wrappings, and place on saw-horses. Screw the truck into the top of pole, using a pipe wrench to tighten. Screw threaded ball-stem into top of truck, using wrench to tighten jam-nut against truck. Thread the longest halyard through the truck pulley, and tape rope-ends together to secure them. Snaphooks can be added after flagpole is set. 6. Pick up the uppermast, with bracket attached, and slide bracket over top of the standing lowermast, turning bracket so that uppermast will be on opposite side from the gaff. Make certain that the bracket is seated solidly, then tighten mounting set-screws. 7. Remove gaff from wrappings. Place swivel eyebolt assembly through the small hole in the small end of the gaff. Thread the longest remaining halyard through the swivel pulley, and tape rope-ends together. Now slide gaff-butt over the sleeve of the gaff bracket, aligning truck vertically. Tighten mounting set-screws. (On larger Nauticals, a turnbuckle will be provided to be installed between gaff and uppermast bracket.) 8. Remove yardarm from wrappings, and attach swivel eyebolt and rope halyard to one end only. Slide other end of yardarm through the yardarm bracket until the yardarm is centered. Align it vertically and then tighten mounting set-screws. Attach other swivel eyebolt and halyard. 9. Mount cleats to pre-drilled holes in lowermast, using tamperproof screws supplied. Attach flagsnaps to halyards by forming loop in rope, pushing loop through swivel and over snap, and pulling taut. Adjust distance between flagsnaps to fit the size flag being flown. (With flag at peak, taped ends of rope should be near cleat.) 10. Re-tamp sand in sleeve, remove wood wedges, and fill void with water-proof cement or caulking sealant. Slide collar down pole, caulk into place on concrete and around pole. |
